The 7th edition of LUMINA Festival da Luz in Cascais took place from 21 to 23 September 2018. LUMINA once again illuminated the urban space of the town with shows of light and colour, through artistic works by renowned national and international artists from different parts of the world.
In the form of contemplative projects, video mappings, performances, interactive projects and for the first time colourful parades that always have light as their common base, the goal was to celebrate the theme "Colours and Shapes" in all its nuances, senses and aspects, but also to allow visitors to freely interpret different forms of expression, interact and participate in artistic works, providing them with a unique experience.
With a program of excellence, the route was composed of 17 works by different national and international artists who met and paid tribute to the art of light. This cultural exchange that enriches LUMINA projects not only artists but also countries.
Continuing the goal of inclusion and interaction, LUMINA 2018 counted on several participative works - created from workshops with the collaboration of the local community - and interactive works, where visitors were called
to intervene in the work itself.
LUMINA is a free event that invites kids and grown-ups to be surprised by a wonderful setting of light in the middle of the dark night.

The 3rd edition of the LUMINA Festival da Luz, took place in Cascais from 12 to 14 September 2014, and included works from various countries spread throughout the Course of Light, providing moments of discovery, magic and great emotion to the public.
The choice of renowned and internationally recognized artists in the area of the art of light, led the public to feel completely involved, overcoming the only contemplative side that light brings us.
A diversified program with notes that referred us to the connection of the village with the sea and light.
Light shows, sculptures and lighting installations that interacted with visitors, multimedia projections and video mapping in the most emblematic buildings and locations of the village, valued the local historical heritage and offered a different visit to Cascais, proposed by Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle, creators and artistic directors of the LUMINA light festival, in 2015, from 11 to 13 September, the LUMINA returns to Cascais with new programming, for another bright edition!
Follow the Blue Light!
2013
From 13 to 15 September, the magical combination of light and sea gave the motto to the 2nd edition of LUMINA Festival da Luz, transforming the historic centre and the bay of Cascais into an innovative cultural experience, of free entry and for all ages.
Over three magical nights, more than 20 national and international artists surprised with great shows of light and colour, video mapping, 3D effects, light graffiti, giant multimedia projections, luminous sculptures and artistic installations that interacted with the public in a unique experience of its kind in Portugal.
Cascais was a pioneer as a land of Lighthouses and its Lights contributed to the success of the Portuguese Discoveries. Today the Light of these Lighthouses reminds us of Cascais' connection with the Sea, inspiring most
of the artistic installations, participative shows, conferences and conversations with artists.
Clouds that come from the sea invade the village... drawings by children from Cascais and three European countries show their personal vision of the Sea, impersonal façades come to life... there are countless pieces that give people a voice, let them reflect on the public space, and that in a playful way make us question our way of life.
Several artists seek collaboration and involvement with the Cascais community and the general public through interaction in specific places in which everyone will be invited to participate, from the youngest to the oldest.
The use of new technologies to achieve greater energy efficiency makes LUMINA an innovative event, with the selection of works taking into account their energy efficiency in the relationship energy spent vs audience achieved.
LUMINA is part of an international network of Light Festivals around the world with partnerships in Australia, Singapore, Israel, Russia, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Poland (among others), which guarantees an international programme of excellence, including the presentation of commissioned works especially for the festival.
In addition, the founders of LUMINA are Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle, artists responsible for OCUBO.com,
an international reference in the areas of video mapping and interactive projections, with projects carried out worldwide, with the aim of sharing the light and allowing the public to appropriate the urban space in a creative way, Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle leave no room for doubt that the Lumina will be an unforgettable experience for everyone!
